Welcome to Sherwood Lodge - the ideal setting for rest and relaxation.
Our philosophy on food is simple: Use the best local produce to offer guests the opportunity to experience the true flavours and textures of North Canterbury. North Canterbury is strong, rugged, farming country and our food takes its direction from the land and people around it. Where possible, we use fruit and vegetables from our own gardens and source as much as possible from local producers.
Dinners are 3 or 4 course table d'hote meals, arranged in conjunction with guests likes and dislikes on a daily basis. If you have any allergies or food likes/dislikes, let us know before you arrive and we will do our best to construct menus to suit.
Dining is generally communal in the formal dining room, but we are more than happy to arrange an intimate dinner for two in your room or something less formal in another part of the lodge. In summer, breakfast is often eaten outside on the upstairs balcony looking out over the mountains. Jams and preserves from our own garden feature on the breakfast menu.
For guests travelling with children, we generally feed the children earlier in the evening separately from the adults, in a less formal environment and with plainer food - ensuring a much more enjoyable dining experience for all of our guests, young and old.
Many of our guests also enjoy the option of experiencing 'traditional' New Zealand pioneering food - slow roasted hogget and vegetables, with lashings of gravy and mint sauce, followed by our famous Pavlova dessert. It's not fancy or frilly food - it's filling and flavoursome, and seriously enjoyable!
"We've been spoilt with impeccable service and sumptuous food. (Birthday cake was awesome!) Thank you Craig, Pip and Pete for a memorable stay."

Wine
New Zealand wines are amongst the best in the world, so why would we offer guests anything but the best? We have a full wine list with some of New Zealand's top wines for guests to choose from as they wish. New Zealand whites in particular, are considered by many to lead the world - yet many people outside of New Zealand have never tasted the best of them, as many of our wineries are small by world standards. Our list offers some of the top boutique wines for our guests to savour, with an emphasis on wines from our closest winegrowing regions of Waipara and Marlborough.
Craig is passionate about wine and is happy to spend time helping you to select the best wine to match the meal....he may even let you taste from his private cellar!
